Emerald is a color that has enchanted me ever since I first saw the Wizard of OZ. And I am only slightly ashamed to admit that, as my fiancé and I started planning for our own wedding this coming August, I pitched hard for a Wizard of OZ undercurrent (NOT theme, just unifying idea) for our big day. I even took him to a sunset Wizard of OZ screening and picnic in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to be like “See, wouldn’t this just be charming?”
Fortunately for my fiancé, and our guests, cooler heads prevailed and we opted for a simple lakeside wedding in Tahoe. But that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped fantasizing about donning my own pair of ruby slippers and walking down the yellow brick aisle in a modern emerald wedding gown.
And, with the one-two punch of Oz the Great & Powerful premiering this March and Emerald recently being named as 2013’s “Color of the Year” by Pantone, there will soon be a plethora of accent items available for any other brides-to-be who may want to sneak a few “somewhere over the rainbow” elements into their special day.
Including – Ta-Da! – our gorgeous engagement ring of the week – the epitome of Emerald Elegance. It’s a Georgian Emerald ring surrounded by 16 mine cut diamonds. The ring is set in silver and topped in 18k gold, with a bewitching head reminiscent of an ornate dragon’s jaw open in profile. All the better for the bride to be who plans to channel a little Glinda the good witch on her big day.
