Celebrate May Babies with Emeralds

Celebrate May Babies with Emeralds

The genius who chose emerald as May’s birthstone was on to something. Emerald’s luminous color captures all the greens of spring – a newly mown lawn, leafy trees in sunshine, and the profusion of blooming flowers. Whether showcased as the main event or highlighting other stones, jewelry set with emeralds has the perfect pop of spring color. The single emerald set into […]

Top 5 Couture Inspired Wedding Jewelry Trends

Whether simple or dramatic, a bride’s ensemble reflects her personal style and can set the tone for the entire wedding. A lot of thought goes into her head-to-toe look, from the dress to the shoes to the jewelry. After tearing ideas from magazines and pinning up a storm, she may be overwhelmed by the possibilities. Luckily, there’s an easy way to pinpoint a style – look to the venue! The couple’s choice of location will influence the color palette and decor, why not let it also inspire the fashion? Based on our Doyle & Doyle brides, we’ve curated five looks based on popular wedding venues. Couture gowns from Giambattista Valli, Elie Saab, Vionnet, and Chanel are matched with vintage and antique jewelry to create bridal styles that are both modern and timeless.

bridal style jewelryIs there anything more romantic than a garden wedding? Trailing ivy, a sun dappled lawn, and colorful flowers are all the decoration you need to create a beautiful day. Perfectly at home in any garden is this flower strewn Giambattista Valli gown, matched with wedding jewelry that picks up the palette of pink, green, and yellow. Wouldn’t a jeweled butterfly look beautiful perched on the shoulder, at the waist, or even in the bride’s hair? And we love the sentiment of Victorian forget-me-nots which decorate the delicate bangle. Add in a pair of colorful cocktail rings and diamond briolette earrings for sparkle, and you’re ready for “I do”.

A Modern Gilded Age

This week, we’re celebrating the opulence of the Gilded Age, which ran from the 1870s to the 1910s. Like last week’s Art Deco post, we’re inspired by a museum exhibition, “Gilded New York”, currently on display at the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY). Many of our most beautiful antique jewels were made at this time, and we’ve pulled together our favorites into The Gilded Age collection.

Edwardian Splendor

While scanning Google and Pinterest for “Age of Innocence” stills for last week’s sapphire post, I happened upon an early photograph of an entrancing Edwardian brunette, elaborately coiffed and bejewelled. She was Lily Elsie, a popular English stage star, best known for her role in 1907’s musical comedy, “The Merry Widow.” Lily began her career […]

Shopping in Style During Spring in Shoreditch

According the Middlesex County Justices, Shoreditch in the East End of London was once a haven for “dissolute, loose, and insolent people” or, as they are otherwise known, actors. Because Shoreditch was outside the jusrisdiction of the City of London’s puritanical leaders, it was an ideal location for plays like Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet to […]

Continuing our celebration of the culture and style of our favorite Spring-time cities, we take a fresh look at that oft romanticized metropolitan, Paris, through one of it’s most locally beloved arrondissements, the 10th, or Canal Saint-Martin.
